Pad and I have this thing we say, when we see something awesome, but not quite achievable just yet. Maybe it’s too expensive, maybe we don’t have the space for it yet, etc.
“When we grow up, shall we’ll buy a 6 slice toaster”
“When we’re grown-ups we’ll have a clay pizza oven in the garden”
“When we’re grown-ups we’ll buy our sofa from DHS, not Gumtree”
And so on…
Anyway, I wanted to post some of my favourite grown-up home inspiration. This is the kind of stuff I want when we’ve bought our own house… Which hopefully won’t be in the too distant future.
Vintage Bathroom Tiles
Why? Just look at them! Oh my gosh. One of the reasons I love living in London actually is because of all the random tiles you see around the city. In Balham (where I live) there is some beautiful vintage tiling next to a Pizza Express restaurant near our flat. I always joke that one day I will go down and steal them, but I don’t think I’m joking deep down. One day they will be mine.
Oversized dining tables
Growing up, every couple of weeks my Mum would host a big dinner party and we’d all sit around the table and eat – and then later play board games and card games. Looking back on my childhood those nights were some of my favourites – and it’s definitely something I want to do with my own family one day.
Grey Hues and HUGE corner sofas
I love grey, especially when paired with white details, and in my opinion, a house isn’t a home without a corner sofa. We have a corner sofa now – but it’s brown (boo!) and it’s not of the huge variety (as much as I wish it were). One day I will have one of those massive 12-seater corners sofas with a million cushions.
A Kitchen Island
I grew up with an island in my childhood home, and I have gorgeous memories of us sitting on the island as kids and baking on it, and other cute stuff. I also know that Pad desperately wants an island – so that makes me want one even more.
A Smeg Fridge
Look at it! It’s so curvy and cute and colourful!
A spa-style bathroom
You know in a hotel, when you snag a room with a gorgeous bathroom? And you’re like “I never will ever leave this room, it is perfection” – that’s the kind of bathroom I want. A big stand-alone bath and a huge 2 person shower… heaven.
