Autumn and Winter are the perfect seasons (and my favourite seasons) to book a European getaway, and between September – December I usually prefer to do little weekend breaks rather than long-haul holidays. Europe has so many gorgeous cities and destinations that are relatively cheap to get to, and quick to get to as well.
Here are some of my favourite:
Venice
Venice is just so beautiful and it feels like a movie set, and you’ll feel like you’re part of a movie as you walk around and explore. Every street and every corner is full of more photo opportunities. Venice does get really hot in the summer though, so visiting in the autumn / winter is a great alternative if you prefer cooler climates. The city does feel a little more mysterious in the autumn / winter too.
Moscow
Some cities come alive in winter, and Moscow is one of them. The city really feels magical in winter-time and the romance of Russia really sparks in winter too. Imagine being wrapped up warm with someone special, sharing a hot drink whilst enjoying the views.
Paris
Paris is known as the city of love – and it’s such a short distance from the UK. Less than an hour via plane, but also reachable by car (on the ferry) or via train (Eurostar). It’s such a gorgeous city, and it’s really beautiful in the autumn and winter as all the trees in the city change to golden brown. I especially love Paris in the evening, when all the city light glitter!
Rome
There is so much to see in Rome, and during the summer it can get a little hot and sweaty fitting in all the sights. Visiting in autumn / winter means you can take your time strolling through all the attractions. Rome has so many romantic restaurants, wine bars, and the history of the city will no doubt enchant you.
