As winter sets in, it’s easy to start feeling the change of season, and feeling a little gloomy (like the weather). Self care is so important, and these are some really easy tips for keeping your mind and body positive.
- Yoga or home meditation
Your home is your own mini recluse, so making time for yourself at home is important. Try not to make home a stressful or overly busy place, and try and keep an area of your house totally relaxed and work-free. This might be your bedroom (candles and room diffusers are ideal!) or maybe your cosy living room (a warm fire is lovely). You can get free yoga tutorials on YouTube to follow, and it’s really as easy as pressing play and following along.
2. Cook meals from scratch
Cooking isn’t relaxing for everyone, but I find it a really relaxing way to switch off and focus on something other than work or emails. When you’re cooking, you’re just switched off to everything else – you can’t play on your phone, you can’t check your emails, and you can’t really think about much else. So put on some music, follow the recipe, and enjoy your food after!
3. Book a spa day
Tempted by a spa break? Do it! Stay-cations are so underrated, and booking a day off work to just relax and unwind, is a seriously great idea. You can find gorgeous spas in pretty much every city and town, and there are loads of countryside spas too in the UK (so I guess we’re extra lucky). My favourite city for spa breaks in Bath – especially the rooftop hot pools and roman baths!
4. Borrow someone’s dog!
If you don’t have your own pet, borrow a friends! Dogs are the ultimate feel-good companion, and a couple of hours playing with a dog, or taking one on a long walk, will really lift your spirits. Luckily, I have my own pooch, so I don’t need to borrow one!
